Since the foundation of iPark Silicon Valley in 1998, which was intended to support the Korean software industry and promote its exports, KIPA has been expanding the iPark project, reaching 7 regions in five countries (Silicon Valley, Boston, London, Beijing, Shanghai, Tokyo, and Singapore) by 2002. When the Korea ICT International Cooperation Agency (KIICA) was set up in January 2007, KIPA transferred its control of iPark to KIICA and renamed them "Overseas IT Support Centers". Currently, these centers have taken on the role of local support offices for Korean IT businesses seeking to enter overseas markets.
The overseas IT support centers aim to provide information and office facilities for Korean IT companies penetrating foreign markets, as well as support for global marketing and international collaboration. To this end, they provide various auxiliary facilities such as conference rooms and local office space for Korean IT businesses. They hold information exchange seminars, offering IT news and in-depth reports on overseas IT markets. They provide legal support for local marketing and accounting consultancy and sponsor business consultancy conferences; and they also introduce Korean IT businesses to foreign distributors, facilitating their participation in exhibitions. On top of all this the centers promote Korean IT policy (IT 839, Dynamic U-Korea) and Korean businesses, attracting foreign investment in Korean IT companies, and helping them to get listed on overseas stock exchanges such as Nasdaq.
