The 8 Key Drivers
Eight new services will be the pillars of U-Korea. These services will allow Koreans to experience next generation wired/wireless convergence services, as well as converged broadcasting and communication services before the rest of the world.
The 3 Infrastructures of Tomorrow
Korea is presently redoubling efforts to build digital social overhead capital in order to support the socio-economic fusion of information, communication and broadcasting.
- A broadband convergence network (BcN) will provide its 20 million subscribers with connection speeds of 50~100Mbps - up to 50 times faster than current speeds (1.5~2Mbps).
- A U-Sensor Network, or USN - the infrastructure for RFID systems - will lead international standardization through the development of core technologies such as electronic chips.
- The introduction of a next generation Internet protocol (IPv6) will be expanded to resolve the depletion of Internet addresses, and provide a core basis for the BcN and home networks.
9 New Growth Engines
By fostering the hardware, software and parts industries that are necessary to build information, communications, broadcasting services and infrastructure, Korea aims to realize another miracle - this time in mobile communications. This is grounded in nine new growth engines: The Ministry of Information and Communications has selected next-generation mobile communications, digital TVs, home networks, IT SoC, next-generation PCs, embedded S/W, digital contents, automotive telematics and intelligent robots. |
